RelyOn Merger FAQS
What does it mean that RelyOn will be merging into Neighborhood Credit Union?
It means that RelyOn is becoming Neighborhood Credit Union. You will become a member of Neighborhood Credit Union, and all accounts and loans you have with RelyOn will become Neighborhood Credit Union accounts and loans. We truly believe that RelyOn and Neighborhood merging makes us Better Together for all our members.
Why is RelyOn Credit Union Merging into Neighborhood Credit Union?
- Banking regulations and the cost of operating a smaller credit union have created challenges to RelyOn’s long-term future.
- We are limited in our ability to provide the financial products, services and technologies larger credit unions can offer.
- The cost of building new locations has risen significantly, which limits the level of convenience we can provide our members.
- Finding qualified volunteers to serve on our board has been difficult. Board members run our credit union.
- Neighborhood Credit Union shares RelyOn’s values and will be able to serve you on a larger scale with 15 locations in North Texas. This is great news for RelyOn Members because you will not have to go far to find a branch near you – especially in the DFW area. Your access within DFW will go as far as Highland Village, Prosper and Anna to the north, Waxahachie to the south, Kaufman to the east and Arlington and Coppell to the west. Talk about convenience!
Can I still open an account with RelyOn Credit Union?Â
You can open new accounts or apply for loans with RelyOn Credit Union until October 31, 2024. After that date, all new accounts and loans must be opened with Neighborhood Credit Union, either by visiting a branch or going to myncu.com.
How do I benefit from this merger?
Neighborhood Credit Union is a larger financial institution than RelyOn and has the resources to provide more convenience and more services than RelyOn can. These are some of the ways you will benefit from becoming a member of Neighborhood Credit Union:
- Multiple checking and savings options, including accounts with cash back rewards, prizes for saving money and accounts for students.
- Loan rates comparable to or better than what RelyOn already offers, and access to more lending options.
- More banking locations throughout North Texas (17, including Forney and Kaufman).
- Live chat online.
- Overall better technology for conducting your banking.
- Access to retirement and investment services.
Is RelyOn failing?
No, RelyOn is not failing. Each year, we analyze the next three to five years of our business, and each year, it becomes more challenging to provide our members with the services we know you deserve. With regulations continuing to change and prices continuing to rise, this is the right time to merge into a credit union that can provide you with those services and conveniences.
Is my money safe or should I withdraw it?
Your money is 100% safe. There is no need to withdraw it. Both RelyOn and Neighborhood Credit Union are insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). Even so, neither credit union is in danger of failing. The money you have in your accounts, loans you have received, etc. will simply become accounts and loans at Neighborhood Credit Union once the merger is complete.
When will I become a member of Neighborhood Credit Union?
You will become a member on September 1, 2024; however, it will take time to combine both credit union systems. Until then you will continue visiting the Forney and Kaufman branches for your day-to-day banking needs and using the current mobile app/online banking.  A timeline will be provided in early 2025 as we work to combine both credit union systems.Â
What if I am already a Neighborhood Credit Union member? Will I have two accounts?
You will have two accounts after the systems are combined. Your Neighborhood Credit Union account will become your primary membership account. Your RelyOn Credit Union account will become a secondary account. We will combine both accounts upon your request.
Will the Kaufman and Forney locations remain open?
Yes. You will still be able to conduct your banking transactions at our existing locations.
How will this affect my day-to-day banking?
At this time, we do not anticipate any changes. A timeline will be provided in early 2025 as we work to combine both credit union systems.
How will updates and new information be communicated?
Regular communication will be provided on the website, social media, and in person when calling or stopping by.

Will RelyOn employees lose their jobs?
RelyOn employees will be given opportunities and choices with Neighborhood. One of the reasons we chose Neighborhood Credit Union is their commitment to taking good care of our employees.
Dear Member,
Why We Are Merging
Banking regulations and the cost of operating a smaller credit union have created challenges to RelyOn’s long-term future. Our current resources limit the financial products, services and technologies we can offer compared to a larger credit union, and building additional locations has become extremely costly.Â
Your board of directors and executives have spent considerable time exploring what is best for the financial future of our credit union and members. We believe RelyOn and Neighborhood Credit Union are Better Together!
Why We Chose Neighborhood Credit Union
- Neighborhood Credit Union is located in North Texas with 14 locations and a 15th location coming soon in Sherman. This is great news for RelyOn Members, because eventually you won’t have to go far to find a branch near you – especially in the DFW area. Your access within DFW will go as far as Highland Village, Prosper and Anna to the north, Waxahachie to the south, Kaufman to the east and Arlington and Coppell to the west. Talk about convenience!
- Neighborhood Credit Union was the very first credit union in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and has been in business nearly 100 years! Only businesses focused on treating their members and employees well stay in business that long.
- Just like RelyOn, Neighborhood Credit Union welcomes members who traditionally get turned away by banks. The credit union also helps its Texas neighbors improve their financial health and well-being. RelyOn would only accept a partner that is willing to continue providing quality service to our members. That’s another reason why we are Better Together – more opportunities to serve.
- It also is important to know that our employees will be well-cared for during this process. That means the people you are used to seeing in our Kaufman and Forney branches are the same people who will serve you as Neighborhood Credit Union employees.
